Insurance Planning

Fee-Only Financial Planning for High-Income Families and Commercial Real Estate Executives

We review your life, disability, long-term care, property, and umbrella coverage to find the gaps between what you're insured for and what you're actually exposed to. Envision is fee-only, so we don't sell insurance and we're not paid if you buy a policy. So when the review concludes your coverage is fine as it is, there's nothing in it for us either way.

Insurance is the part of a financial plan most people assemble by accident. A group policy from work. A term policy from when the first baby came home. An umbrella limit set back when your net worth was a third of what it is now. Nobody wakes up excited to review insurance. That's fine. We'll be excited enough for both of us. Each decision made sense at the time. Looked at together, they usually reveal one or two real exposures and at least one thing you're paying for that you no longer need.

This is also where being fee-only matters most. Insurance is a commission-heavy business, and the incentive to sell you a policy is exactly what our compensation model removes. We don't sell insurance, and we're paid the same whether you buy something or not. When you genuinely need coverage, we work with independent brokers we trust to place it. When you don't, we'll tell you that too.

What This Covers

What Insurance Planning Includes

Disability coverage, checked against real income

For a high earner, and especially a commission earner, disability is usually the biggest uninsured risk. Group coverage often caps out well below what your household actually lives on, and it doesn't always count commission income the way you'd expect.

Life insurance sized to obligations, not a rule of thumb

We start with what your family would actually need covered, for how long, and what's already there to cover it. That math produces a different number than "ten times salary," and sometimes it's a smaller one.

Umbrella limits that kept up with you

Umbrella limits tend to get set once and never revisited, so the gap between coverage and exposure grows quietly as your assets do. It's inexpensive to fix and expensive to discover late.

Long-term care, with the trade-offs said out loud

Traditional coverage, self-funding, and hybrid products all have real drawbacks. The right answer depends on your assets and your family's health history, not on a product somebody wants to sell you.

Frequently asked questions

Do you sell insurance?

No. Envision is fee-only and we receive no commission from any policy, ever. If you need coverage, we work with independent brokers we've vetted who place it, and our fee is the same either way. Including when the review concludes you need nothing new.

Isn't my employer's disability coverage enough?

Often not, for a high earner. Group policies typically replace a capped percentage of income, and that cap frequently sits well below what you actually earn. How the policy defines covered income matters too. Bonus and commission income aren't always treated the way you'd assume. We read the actual policy, not the benefits summary.

Is whole life a good investment?

It's an insurance product with an investment component, and we evaluate it as insurance first. There are situations, like certain estate and trust structures or business arrangements, where permanent coverage does real work. There are also plenty of cases where term coverage plus investing the difference gets you there for less. Since we earn nothing either way, we can compare them on the merits.
